A Season to Reflect
Fall is here in Louisiana and it’s a great time to stop and reflect! I don’t know about you, but fall is my favorite season. The cool weather in the mornings is my favorite! I grew up in Michigan, and it’s a little different here than it is there during fall. For example, the leaves change quicker there, and sometimes in October, it snows! My family and I would go to a cider mill and get fresh hot cider and donuts every year. There’s something about the smell in the air and the big green trees turning yellow, orange, and red.
Stop and Reflect
Fall is also a time of reflection before we get to the busyness of the holidays. We only have three more months in the year! For most of us, that time will fly. We get sucked in with fall holidays and preparing for winter. For some of us, including myself, it may be hard to find that time to sit down and reflect. However, when we do give ourselves that time (sometimes forcibly) we sit and think about:
- The things that went well
- The things that didn’t go so well
- The things we want to improve next year
It is important to give yourself at least 30 minutes to do this. It can be helpful to scroll through your photos on your phone during this time to help refresh your memory.
Revisit Your Resolutions
With that being said, now is a great time to sit down and re-read your 2024 New Year’s Resolutions! If you don’t have a list of things you wished to do this year, it’s not too late! You still have some time. Here are some tips when you go back to the list:
Check the goals that you set for yourself. Are there any that are outstanding? Did you complete some of these goals? If so, are the outstanding goals doable in the next 3 months? If not, start a new 2025 New Year’s Resolution. The goals that are outstanding will be a priority for the next year. Sometimes, goals will come up for you during the remainder of the year. Write them down as they come along.
Give yourself grace. None of us are perfect! Re-evaluate some of these outstanding goals. Is this goal reachable for 2025, or does this need to go on your 5-year or 10-year plan?
Stay in a positive mindset. Don’t be hard on yourself or feel guilty that you didn’t accomplish this goal. We are always doing the best we can. Sometimes mental health can set us back, but it’s important to stay positive and believe in yourself. You’ll get it! Keep trying!
Progress not Perfection
Keep your 2024 New Year’s Resolution handy. At year’s end, reflect on what you’ve accomplished when making your 2025 resolutions. Sometimes, it’s fun to post on Facebook and set the privacy to “Private.” It reminds you, over time, of your accomplishments that year. You also may want to share them with your friends and family! Sometimes their support is what motivates us. Whatever you decide to do, remember, it’s just a season. You got this. Keep going!
