Help Kids Cope During Quarantine
Children are experiencing many different feelings during quarantine. Some may be worried about their safety, they may miss their friends, or they may just be sad they can’t do some of the things they used to do. Here are some ways to help kids cope during quarantine.
Christy Pennison, LPC-S, and her furry friend Waldo the Walrus with Be Inspired Counseling & Consulting wanted to help kids identify how they feel, teach them coping skills to manage their feelings, and help them learn ways to shift their thoughts to what is going right instead of what they may be missing. In this four-part, interactive video series, we talk with kids to help them gain tools to manage however they feel at this time.
How are you feeling?
In the first video, Counselor Christy and Waldo explore the different feelings kids may be experiencing during the quarantine.
How to help “worry” thoughts
During part two of this video series, Counselor Christy and Waldo practice a distraction technique to help with worrying thoughts, deep breathing, and visualization.
What is going right?
Counselor Christy and Waldo help kids shift their thoughts to what is going right. They also encourage kids to identify what they like about staying at home.
Stay awesome!
During the last part of this series, Counselor Christy and Waldo review the skills learned in parts 1-3. They remind kids to stay awesome and use their imagination! 🙂
For parents, make sure you are checking in with your kids during quarantine. Ask them how they feel? Validate how they feel. Talk with them. Create new memories with them. Help them to remember this will not be forever.
